It’s not often you’d see humans so willing to help a three-metre crocodile get his bite back.

But this is no ordinary crocodile. This is RoboCroc, who’s become an overnight celebrity after veterinary surgeons bolted his head back together with a combination of screws and metal rods.

RoboCroc arrived at the Miami Metrozoo last year after a car ran over his head, crushing his skull and snapping his snout.

He hasn’t eaten for the past three months, but he has shown an uncanny knack for not wanting to die.

Now, after four hours on the surgery table, RoboCroc’s carers are hoping he can show the same spirit and survive long enough to open his mouth and once again start terrorising local wildlife.

“RoboCroc is doing fine,” Ron Magill, a spokesman for Miami Metrozoo, told the Miami Herald.

Sadly, Magill said he didn’t expect RoboCroc to live much longer. But then, he didn’t expect him to make it to the surgery table either.

RoboCroc’s facial reconstructive surgery involved screwing two metal rods between his eyes and along the bridge of his nose, rejoining his limp snout to his skull.

Another two plates on either side of RoboCroc’s face completed the job.

“We have a certain responsibility to our endangered, native species and it was either he die on the table today, or die a horrible, slow death,” Magill said.

“Now it’s a case of time, making sure the wounds don’t become infected and then eventually making sure he has a good meal.”

Dokter Douglas Mader dari rumah sakit Marathon Veterinary mencoba merekontruksi wajah buaya tersebut. Keadaan Robocroc semakin membaik, meskipun tidak bisa beraktivitas secara normal… kasihan sekali.

Coba kalau terjadi di negri kita, apa sudah jadi sup buaya dan dompet kulit buaya dan tas kulit buaya.
