After being open on Wednesday, March 11th 2009, the International Furniture & Craft Fair Indonesia exhibition (IFFINA) 2009 was attended by 1200 visitor. The exhibition which targeted business to business segment participated by 311 people from various cities in Indonesia and most of participant from foreign country display their special furniture with their own characteristic.

As IFFINA 2009 organizer, Dyandra conveyed their gratitude to ASMINDO and all parties involved in this exhibition. That is what Director of Dyandra Promosindo, Ernst K. Remboen, said in his speech on Buyers & Exhibitors Night IFFINA 2009, Thursday night, March 12th 2009 at Hall C1, Arena Pekan Raya Jakarta.

In this Buyers & Exhibitors Night event, hosted by Indra Herlambang, started with dinner, music show, games, Indonesian traditional dance show, and the announcement of The Best Stand Award IFFINA 2009 winner was the peak of the show which gathered buyers and exhibitors that night.

Dino, one of the buyer that came from Italia were really in to the event that night, he said that he was impressed with IFFINA 2009, even though this is not the biggest show he ever visited but IFFINA 2009 but he found great products and new suppliers from Indonesia. “This is not the biggest show I have visited, but the products in here are very good. I also got 6 new suppliers from here. And I will continue to look for Indonesian supplier.”

Similar with what Dino said, Cezar, young buyer from Polish said, “I got my self a very interesting event out here and this exhibition truly displays products with Indonesian characteristic. I got what I’m looking for and I will certainly come to the next year IFFINA event.”

The same enthusiasm was told by Jerry Tan, Chairman of ASEAN Furniture Industry Council (AFIC) who sat next to Asmindo Chairman, Ambar Cahyono that night. “IFFINA 2009 is a major breakthrough, from the product and quality point of view. Congratulation to Dyandra Promosindo and ASMINDO, all things are working well,” he praised.

Others than buyers, other great news also came from one of the exhibitors. Michael from Sydney Austria, who open up the Simplicity Gallery booth says, “This is my first time in IFFINA, and this is a very good show. It also really gives me a hand. I will surely participate in the next year IFFINA event.”

Buyers &Exhibitor Night IFFINA 2009 closed with the award winner announcement and winner cession. ASMINDO’s chairman, Ambar Cahyono and on of its member Oki Wijayanto got “Leaderships in Promoting the Use of Environmental Friendly Sources,” from Indonesia’s Eco-label Organization (Lembaga Ekolabel Indonesia – LEI), for his attention to maintain public forest, the use of certificated timber, and helping the people who lives around the forest.

IFFINA 2009 Success in Achieving US$ 170 Million During Economic Crisis.

Jakarta, 15th March 2009. Global economic crisis doesn’t have a significant impact on the improvement of Indonesia’s furniture and craft this year. That can be seen from the transaction made in International Furniture and Craft Fair Indonesia (IFFINA) 2009, held on March 11th -15th 2009.

During the exhibition, estimated around US$170 million transaction occured. This is an incredible achievement especially when we remember the global crisis that occure around the globe. But the prediction on the estimated of the transaction occured will increase since buyer will visit directly to the furniture industrial central after IFFINA 2009.

“The achievement came from 311 exhibition participants, supported by thousands of subcontractor companies, ASMINDO, Dyandra Promosindo Organizer and other associations that work together during the exhibition. The estimated number of transaction will increase since the buyer will visit directly to places where furniture industry centralizes,” said chairman of Indonesian Furniture and Craft Association (ASMINDO), Ambar Tjahyono said in IFFINA 2009 closing day, on Tuesday, March 15th 2009.

At least 2000 buyers from 94 countries, such as United States of America, Spain, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Middle East and Polish, came to the exhibition which was held by ASMINDO working together with Dyandra Promosindo. This exhibition is the biggest exhibition of furniture and craft in Indonesia.

Most of the deals were done by buyers from United State of America, Spain, Netherlands, Australia and Middle East. Nowadays, the international market preferred an environmental friendly products. And until today, United State of America is still the biggest market for Indonesian furniture and crafts products, explained Ambar.

“We continue to improve our product quality, design and technology and encouraging public forest for the material source thus resulting green product that the international market interested in,” he said.

Ambar hoped that after IFFINA 2009, in the next one or two weeks, lots of buyer will do ‘factory visit’ and another real purchase order to the Indonesian furniture and craft in various places will occure.

Another positive message also said by the Ministry of Industry, Fahmi Idris, which came to IFFINA on the last day of the exhibition, Sunday, March 15th 2009. Fahmi appearance were as a representative of government support towards IFFINA 2009. When he was walking around the exhibition arena with his family, he actually had a chance to buy some furniture and handycraft from the participant of the exhibitions.

“The second IFFINA which was held this year by ASMINDO and supported by other associations were much improve compared to last year. The variety of the furniture, rattan craftsmanship, new product design and technology has showed that there’s a significant improvement,” Fahmi said.  “If next year economic condition is much better, then there’ll be more participant, and I hope there are more small industry companies that join the exhibition,” said Fahmi.

After that, Dyandra Promosindo Director, Ernst K. Remboen, as the event organizer said, “For a country that affected by the economic crisis, this year IFFINA run smoothly according to what we had hoped and able to achieved our target including the number of participant and buyers that came to the exhibition.”

Ernst also hope that they will hold IFFINA 2010, there’s a positive support and pro-active communications between ASMINDO and the government thus creating a positive synergy to make the next exhibition will run smoothly. And with that more participant and buyers come to the exhibition and make Indonesian furniture industry improved.

Furniture dan kelengkapan rumah tangga lainnya adalah hal lain yang juga mesti dipikirkan ketika seseorang memasuki rumah baru. Bukan berarti tidak ada produk yang bagus. Namun, harganya terjangkau. “Mencari barang yang bagus dan murah sekarang ini susah. Bukannya tidak ada, tetapi pembeli harus pandai-pandai mencarinya,”

Tips:

Pertama adalah mengenali bahan. Jika diteliti, produk furnitur ada yang terbuat dari bahan solid, yaitu kayu asli. Produk-produk seperti ini umumnya berharga mahal.

Pilihan lain yang harganya paling murah adalah yang menggunakan bahan partikel, yaitu berupa serbuk gergaji yang diolah sedemikian rupa. Di antara keduanya, dewasa ini ada bahan yang semakin populer dan banyak digunakan, yaitu MDF (medium density fiber).

Hal lain yang perlu diperhatikan, apakah produk tersebut impor atau buatan dalam negeri, yang terpenting adalah kualitas. Secara umum, produk impor memang relatif lebih baik dan lebih halus buatannya. Namun, dewasa ini, produk dalam negeri juga sudah mulai berkembang dan banyak dicari konsumen serta mulai bersaing dengan produk impor. Terlebih Indonesia adalah salah satu exporter 5 besar dunia.

Hanya saja, memang tidak mudah mengenali dan membedakan bahan tersebut. Jangankan konsumen, penjual saja dapat dibingungkan, apalagi jika produk diterima dari pabrik dalam keadaan terbungkus rapi. Namun, orang-orang yang terlatih dapat membedakan dengan merasakan bahan.

Di samping bahan, faktor lain yang menjadi pertimbangan adalah tren yang berkembang. Dewasa ini, tren furnitur bukan lagi sekadar desain minimalis, melainkan kombinasi minimalis dengan aksen atau motif menggunakan bahan dari rotan, kulit, logam, alumunium, eceng gondok, atau kaca.

Sementara itu, untuk produk kasur dan tempat tidur, dewasa ini penggunaan kasur pegas (spring bed) semakin populer.

Hal itu sesuai dengan kebutuhan orang untuk tidur nyenyak, kasur pegas dapat membantu istirahat yang lebih berkualitas. Sehubungan dengan produk ini, rumah atau frame bed yang dibutuhkan cukup penting, dan jenis pegas maupun bahan misalnya latex bisa menjadi acuan.
Di pasaran, ada beragam tipe kasur pegas. Yang harganya tinggi umumnya menggunakan full lateks orisinal. Di bawahnya, ada yang menggunakan kombinasi per dengan lateks.

Pada akhirnya, semua kembali pada kebutuhan konsumen. Perkara bujet, dapat diatur sesuai kantong. Namun, untuk mendapatkan produk yang sesuai, sebaiknya datang ke outlet yang memiliki koleksi dan pilihan produk yang komplet dan beragam.
